Filming Mr. Split Commercial: My Brother Steals the Show and my Pocket Money

Image
Today (October 29, 2020) I decided to film the first 3 scenes of my commercial (storyboard boxes 1 through 3). After much begging, and a unreasonable payment, I finally got my brother to join me in filming and to play a few characters. I bribed him into being the banana stealer and Mr. Split, but once the later scenes like the fighting scene occurs, my youngest brother will remain as Mr. Split while my oldest brother will take over the role of banana stealer. Since the scenes were simple, I did not encounter many problems, but there were a few problems with the props. Since I had free time and my brother was in a good mood, I wanted to get the filming done today, but by the time I chose to film the bananas began to rot. It's not as noticeable in the video but I was still disappointed about it. I also fell through with the banana stealer’s costume, as he was supposed to be wearing all black including black sunglasses. I couldn't find any black glasses, so I had to go to an alt...

Planning Storyboard for my Mr. Split Bananas commercial

Image
Scene 1- For the 1st scene I wanted to establish a common scenario of an everyday person. I will shoot a person in regular clothes sitting on a couch occupied with their phone, before craving a snack and reaching for a banana from the bowl set on the table in front of them. I utilized the Filming Technique of Alfred Hitchcock; Information to create suspense. The audience was aware of the Banana stealer lurking in the back, but the character was not. These scenes established suspense to lead up to the conflict in the next scene.   Scene 2- Scene 2 is where the conflict begins. The banana stealer jumps out of hiding and steals the banana before running out of the house.   Scene 3- The character will be in distress over the crime that occurred in her living room. Pleading for help Mr. Split hears her cries and appears to her rescue. He reassures her that everything will be alright then takes off into a sprint after the thief.   Scene 4- The chasing sequence will ...

Planning for my Mr. Split Banana's Commercial

I plan to use multiple conventions in my commercial, but I will mainly focus on the common conventions of the action genre. I decided to do my genre project and interview on action, so I feel I am most familiar with action and can utilize it the best. I will use multiple conventions of action from lighting to even common sounds. In my project I plan to advertise a brand of bananas called Mr. Split. The brand will turn the common fruit into an admired superhero known as Mr. Split. Mr. Split banana stealers that take the enjoyment and deliciousness of bananas away from innocents. Slogan: “Mr. Split bananas! Full of energy to rid the world of all evil doers inside and out.”   Location There will be two locations: my house and the park down the street. Due to the pandemic there aren’t a lot of places I can travel to do this commercial, so I’ll just have to use the resources closest to me. The park is being used because of the large amount of space and the house is used to ...

Research Blog: Commercial Conventions

Image
I decided to do a banana commercial advertising the fruit and its exciting qualities. Banana commercials can contain a range of scenery and propaganda, from the adventurous exotic jungle to everyday folks simply enjoying the fruit. Common Conventions. 1.          A common convention in a banana commercial would be, consumer reassurance of the freshness and health of the fruit. Marketers would include things like “grown freshly” or “no use of pesticides” to allude to the audiences, as no one wants their fruit to be contaminated with chemicals. 2.          Banana commercials majorly advocate the health benefits of banana while also denouncing unhealthy snacks, presenting bananas as an equal and healthier alternative. Whether the commercial is alluding to the banana’s energy benefits or endless nutrients, marketers will always include the fact that a banana is delicious and healthier than multiple other food competitors. 3.   ...
