Introduction to the Music Video Project

Due to the current circumstances of the virus I decided to work alone. I also decided to work alone because I don’t know many people in the class, and the one person that I do know has a busy schedule and wouldn’t be able to meet up and film as often as we would need to. I’m the type of person that works better and faster alone, so I don’t have a problem with working alone. For my music video I chose to the song tyl by Kakie, released in 2019. I recently discovered this song in a Filipino TV show I was watching called Gaya sa Pelikula which translates to Like in the Movies, and I instantly fell in love with the song. The song follows the plot of two struggling young lovers, which can be easily portrayed in a music video. The song also mentions waves and the moon, which are two reoccurring images that can be played throughout the video as symbolism. Not only do the lyrics of the song appeal to me, but the beats and chorus are unique and moving and is great music video material. In Kakie’s music video rather than following a plot she features herself in the video singing, dancing, and playing instruments that are in the song. The video also contains a wide variety of animation and editing, from 4 Kakie’s appearing on the screen at once, to an animated moon and waves. I thought that the mention of waves would be a great opportunity for me to take advantage of my surroundings and get footage of the beach I live close to. I would also capture a picture of a full moon and find a way to edit that into the video. I have a few ideas, but there’s only so much I can do in a span of 1 minute (the allotted time for the music video). Since I am a big fan of K-pop my initial though was to use a song from one of my favorite artists, but I figured that would bring about a lot of complications I would rather avoid. I wanted to display a love between two individuals that has everything against them, but despite those odds they still attempt to make it through. To show off a deeper love I didn’t want to go the general route and show off a straight couple and instead a LGBTQ couple, but with the lack of participants I don’t think I would be able to do so. However, another idea came to me when I though about the insane number of pets in my household. I thought up the idea to use my dog Faye and hamster Kevin to represent the hardships that come with relationships, especially with individuals that aren’t seen as a typical love by society. Many people could relate to the video and the lyrics of the song. Since Kevin usually stays in his cage 24/7, I figured the boundary between the two could be a significant piece of symbolism, even more so since Kevin is always biting at the cage trying to escape. Since the song is so serious and deals with serious topics, I want to show a cute contrasting video.
