What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?

The names of the Institutions, actors, music supervisor, costume designer, editor, production designer, director of photography, and the executive producer are displayed. The names of those who produced, wrote, directed, and made the music also appeared in the opening scene. The title of the movie appeared in big font after the names of the institutions and main actors.

What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

Images prioritized in the opening sequence were babies. The movie is titled “The Back-up Plan” and most likely refers to the plan after a pregnancy. Baby related images were shown throughout the entire animation from baby bottles, pacifiers, storks, and actual babies.

What connotations do these images carry?

The images establish a bombardment of pregnancy. The movie is most likely based on a women’s pregnancy and the obstacles she goes through when dealing with the fetus and her love life.

How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?

Like most romantic comedies the film introduces the titles in a happy upbeat way. Happy music is played with an animation that presents interesting ironic images. For example, while the woman was walking throughout the city there was an ultrasound of a baby in window Tv’s. The cliché of the guy who secretly sells thing out of his coat even appeared but rather than sketchy looking watches, baby supplies was shown. This aids towards the comedy aspect of romantic comedies. In opening/title sequences comedy usually overpowers romance.

What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

There was no specific strategy used in the opening sequence other than the clever appearance of the babies and a mature writing of the titles. In movies targeted towards younger people the font of the titles would be done in a more juvenile bright way, but the font of the title in The Back-Up plan was sophisticated. Women, typically older, are the targets for romantic comedies and children are most likely a familiar area. The appearance of babies especially in witty ways not obvious to young children seems to target older people.

How has technology been used effectively? You want to consider camera angles, transitions and editing techniques.

Due to the opening sequence being animation, things like camera angles and transitions weren’t present. There was animated editing, but not the type of editing that would be done with actual film. One major edit was the women's normal body as she was walking then suddenly a pregnant belly in the window she’s passing by. The edits of the babies in most places were effective in portraying the overall concept of the movie.
