Wild Kingdom

My name is Imani Sameem and I am currently a junior at Fort Lauderdale High School, and as of lately times have been tough. Me and my family moved into my grandmother’s house for a short while with other family members that also live here.  It’s great here, I love living with my family and being close to them, but the only downside to living here is that this house is basically Wild Kingdom. One of my cousins has a hamster named Kevin and my other cousin has a rabbit named Snowflake. Along with those two, I moved here with my dog Faye. I usually love animals but lately I've never disliked them so much. One terrible morning I was half asleep and had to relieve myself. While I was peeing I saw something on the floor between my feet, and initially thought it was toilet paper because it was white. I looked closer and asked myself "Since when did toilet paper have legs”? Kevin decided to take a field trip and was on the ground between my feet- he got out of his cage in the middle of the night and his little legs carried him to the bathroom. I’ve never been so scared in my life and I let out a scream that woke the whole neighborhood; it gave me a chance to learn who would come to my rescue. My brothers like the bums they are slept with no care in the world, and I know if Canada heard my scream they sure did. I could feel my heart take a dive out of my chest; Kevin almost didn’t make it out alive. That near-death experience was truly an event that changed me for the better. I never knew what people meant when they say their life flashed before their eyes, but within that span of 2 seconds from when I made eye contact with Kevin’s demon eyes to my sprint to the tub, everything was set in slow motion and the flashes came one by one. I thought about my future and how it was at jeopardy when Kevin extended his fangs. I’ve always wanted to be a lawyer and have tried my hardest to take the steps that would get me there. That’s one of my main reason for enrolling at Fort Lauderdale High School, because of its amazing law program. I also thought about life without feet, as my own were nearly consumed. I love to dance, and I imagine it would be challenging without feet. Dancing is my sanctuary and whenever I need to relieve stress or take a break from reality I can always turn to the art of dance. My current goals are the same as every typical high school junior. I’m preparing for the SAT's, signing up for as many scholarships as I can, and searching for colleges. I'm a procrastinator but I get the job done. I had a few friends that took AICE Media Studies last year and I thought it was pretty interesting and decided I would take it this year. I don’t like work so I can’t say I’m exactly looking forward to this class, but I made a promise to myself on that horrid day standing on the pearl colored tub, that I would try my hardest in all aspects of my life and never take life for granted. As for Kevin he’s safe and in his cage, but we currently have a love hate relationship.
