Filming Blog - Faye and Kevin's Individual Scenes + Beach Waves Scene

When I began filming, I first began to film the hardest parts of what I planned in my storyboard. On Friday, November 27, 2020, I took a trip to the beach and got shots of the waves. The waves at the time weren’t as rough as I wanted them to be, but they still were impactful. I first went up to the pier and filmed the waves and later went down to the sand and got shots of the waves crashing against the sand. Unfortunately, I was not able to take my dog to the beach and therefore I couldn’t get any shots of her sitting near the shore and staring into the distance. When I arrived at the beach, I realized that bringing her most likely wouldn’t have worked out, since there were people there and she gets easily distracted. The waves and water would have scared her too and it was hot and would have been bad for her due to her fur. The rest of the scenes could be filmed at home, so I just decided to begin filming the easiest scenes. I filmed the solo scenes of my dog (Storyboard Box 8). To set a certain mood, I used different kinds of lighting. To brighten the scene since it was a little dark, I used my Ring LED light and as a contrast I put a black cloth over the nearby lamp shade, presenting a darker mood. My dog has a natural sad face, so I didn’t need to do much to get her to fit the role. Getting her to look towards the camera was struggle and she always seemed to look away whenever I turned the camera on. She would always stare out the window next to the couch she was placed on, but luckily Kevin’s (hamster) cage is right next to the window, so I panned the camera towards his cage. Later, I will edit it in a way to show her longingly looing at Kevin. The next solo scene I filmed was her walking alone outside. Since it was raining not long before I started filming the mood was rather sad and dark. It was also drizzling, so when she walked down the sidewalk a sad situation was presented. Once the rain started to pick up, I decided to stop filming outside. My dog would often walk away at times and stray away form the direction I wanted her to walk in. It took many attempts to successfully get her to slowly walk down the sidewalk in a straight line. Earlier during the break, I managed to get videos of Kevin (the hamster) chewing on his cage. Kevin usually sleeps during the day, so when I saw he was up early and chewing on his cage I did not miss the chance to get the recording. I managed to get a close up of him chewing on the cage bars violently. Throughout filming I got many pictures of scenes that were best captured through a picture instead of a recording. I took many pictures primarily using the Toy Camera Effect programmed into my camera. When editing, I will find a way to incorporate the pictures into the music video.
