Planning for my Music Video

Since the song I chose falls into the romance category for music, I will be using two individuals to display a struggling love. I plan to use my dog Faye and my cousin’s hamster Kevin. The song I chose is called tyl by Kakie. The song discusses struggling young lovers, with one party filled with hope to make the relationship work but faced with the constant disappointment provided by the other party. She describes a hope for easy young love is while simultaneously facing the reality that it is not possible, at least not anymore.

Location

Due to limited locations caused by our current situation, I only plan to film in a few places. I will film in neutral areas of my house (in front of a wall/couch), at the beach, and there'll be a few shots outside (sidewalk or grassy area). I will have a space set up that will be covered with black all around so I can get specific shots like a close up of each animal.

Props

I don't plan to use many props other than the ones I specifically need, like a hamster ball for Kevin when I want to have out of cage shots. The cage (as a prop) will also be used for symbolism, representing a barrier between the young lovers. The location and editing will do most of the storytelling rather than the props itself.

Costumes

Since my actors are animals’, costumes are not necessary. I will, however, throw in a doggy dress for one of the shots, but that is the extent of costumes in this music video.

Backup Plan

If I find working with the animals difficult, I will probably switch to using humans instead. I will most likely use my brother and his girlfriend to represent struggling young lovers, as they are young lovers themselves. I would get my brother girlfriend, who adores me, to film her doing specific actions like arguing on the phone or sitting in a bathroom crying. Since they don’t live very close to each other, distance could be easily portrayed through the video as one of the struggles of the young lovers. If my brother and his girlfriend prove difficult to work with, my last resort is to use myself to represent two struggling lovers. If this occurs, costumes will be extremely important to my video. Since there would be one person playing both roles it would be a lot easier for the audience to decipher the plot of the video if I dressed as a male and female. I hope it will not have to come to that but if it does, I'm willing to take actions into my own hands.
