Creative Critical Reflection Questions: Music Video

Image
  1.           How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?                     I used many common conventions found in past and present music videos, to complete my project. While they may not have been as perfected as today’s music videos, the conventions I used are still present. Like in many romance themed music videos that display diverse loves, I displayed a love between two uncommon individuals. Rather than the common happy, flowering love, I portrayed a sad, dying love. The love was first displayed and then shown to diminish fast and abruptly. I also used close ups to establish a better connection with the main character of my video. The close up provided raw feelings, that allow the audience to truly understand what is going in inside the characters head as well as the story. My dog has a sad looking face, so it really benefit...

Final Music Video "TYL" by kakie

Throughout this project there were a lot of mistakes and doubts but nonetheless I remain happy with the result. There was a lot of footage I recorded that I did not include in the video, and most things I planned previously did not actually occur in the video. With animals as actors there was a lot of patience necessary as well a lot of cleaning up after the animals. Editing was also a hassle as a component of music videos are fluent transitions and when editing on two apps, with one specifically for transitions, it became rather difficult. With enough patience and hope I completed the video.

At Long Last, Filming is Now Completed!

When filming the last few parts of my music video I got struck with inspiration and began to film other scenes that I did not plan in my story board. I majorly filmed the scenes where both characters are surrounded by all black and the camera captures them. This would serve as a relaxed moment in the video; a break from all the other things going on the video. I initially decided I would just film the hamster and dog by themselves with nothing else, but I decided to change that. Instead, I surrounded them with flowers as a representation of their love. I took a few videos of them surrounded by flowers and then one by one I would take the flowers away to show the diminishing love. Getting my dog to sit down in one place and look at the camera was a big struggle; she already wasn’t feeling well that day, so it was a little hard to do. The hamster was even worse, and he never stayed in one spot and kept roaming everywhere. I surrounded multiple items I could find over the area I set...

My First Attempt at Editing my Music Video

Image
Since I did not finish filming, there was only so much I could do when I began editing. Before, I mainly use the Microsoft Video Editor to edit all my videos, but since this is music video, I figured I would need to find an alternative. The Microsoft Video Editor does not include many common features that could be found in a music video like transitions, zooms, and certain filters. Before editing anything, I searched for music video editors online and finally found one I was satisfied. However, the app was not available on my computer and could only be downloaded on my phone. I’ve never used my phone to edit any of my previous videos before, so this will be a new experience. I’m using the Microsoft Video Editor to trim, and properly order the individual recordings on my camera. When filming I tackled the easiest scenes first, so I wasn’t able...
