Starting the Final Task

My name is Imani Sameem, and I am currently a junior at Fort Lauderdale High School. I showed an interest in media studies in my sophomore year when a friend mentioned the class. I’ve always been interested in media, especially movies and TV shows. I’ve always wanted to know the process that goes behind the production. When I heard that we made our own videos and got to film, it was a done deal and I choose AICE media studies as an elective near the end of my sophomore year. Due to the pandemic, I wasn’t allowed to film with professional cameras in school, but I am still enjoying the class, nonetheless. For this final project I decided to complete it on my own. After working with both groups of people and by myself for multiple projects, I’ve found that I worked better by myself. I also had been completing my other projects I've had in this class by myself, so I figured completing the final project would be best if I did it alone. I stayed away from working with others on other projects I've had throughout the year due to the availability of some of my classmates, which was lacking. It was hard to get together with the virus; not many people were willing to risk it. I didn’t know majority of my classmates, so it wasn’t easy to work with anybody. For the few people I do know in the class, we live pretty far away from each other and there was no safe, equally distanced place to gather; time was also an issue since we all had other activities to do. For this project I plan to use my family members as actors. Working with friends and other family members of my friends would have been hard for me, since I wouldn't be as comfortable with them. With my family members, I can be a little harsher when directing and give them criticism that wouldn't be appropriate with someone who's just not a family member. I tend to get a little frustrated when the scene I want to portray isn't going exactly the way I planned it too and so working with someone who's used to my mood seems like the best option. The idea I have for my video would also be tough to do in a group; it’s a one-person vision and a group would be too many minds. I like working on my own pace that’s very distinct too me. If I worked with others on this particular project I would either feel rushed or nonproductive. The burden of the project is a lot heavier since someone else is depending on my work for a passing grade and I’d rather just hold my own fate in my hands and no one else’s.
