Final Task: First Day of Filming

As set in the schedule, the first day of filming commenced this past Saturday March 6, 2021. During filming I recorded a part of scene 9 and 10. My brother’s girlfriend joined us this weekend and rather than having her repeatedly come back I took the opportunity to finish all of her parts in the film, which wasn’t that many. My brother’s girlfriend (Jakira Worsley) was able to deliver the emotions and portray the acting I wanted, but not without many trials and errors. While I wanted to portray a character with elegance, sexiness, and maturity, it was hard to do so based on Ms. Worsley’s natural character. She fit more into the tomboy category and had trouble delivering my vision. For costumes I instructed her to bring a piece of her own clothing, like a dress, but all she had were shorts, sweatpants, and plain T shirts.  To get the feeling I wanted, I lent her a piece of my own clothing. I was not completely satisfied, but the sexiness, elegance and maturity were somewhat there. There was a lot of trouble with the acting aspect of her part. She couldn’t figure out a way to properly deliver the lines or make a facial expression I described. Before filming I showed her the storyboard and instructed her on what to say. We first recorded her entrance which was just her walking and the camera capturing her leg up to her knee. We later tried to get the point of view shot that enhances her beauty, but she had trouble making the proper expression. We were stuck on that for quite some time, so we just decided to come back to that. We then captured her walking in (the 4th storyboard box in scene 9) and delivering her line. That took multiple takes as she could not properly deliver the line and express the proper emotion. At some points she would be too calm and at others she would be too aggressive. I was striving for somewhere in the middle. My brother joined in, in that scene and his screams in the background could be heard. He also had trouble portraying the proper screams, so in order to stimulate an incredibly fearful scream we continuously showed him clowns (which he is afraid of) and encouraged him to picture tiny clowns nipping at his feet. Since we couldn’t get the scene I was looking for, I decided to add a prop which was a broom. Once in hand with the prop, Ms. Worsley produced the perfect scene. We then went back to the point of view shot and after many trials, captured the perfect recording. After capturing that we filmed the last box of storyboard 10, which went by a lot faster. We wrapped up filming after that and I compensated the actors with oranges.
