Research Blog: Music Video Conventions
In general, music videos contain multiple components that deliver the lyrics of the song through a visual outlook. Common conventions in a music video are long shots, close ups, and mid shots. Close ups are most common out of the three, as it is the clearest way to deliver the emotions of a character in a music video as well as to help the audience understand the plot of the video better. Since this is a music video there will be a lack of dialogue and therefore a lack of context, which will have to be made up for through the facial expressions and actions of those in the video which can be best captured through close ups.
