Filming All Done! No more Beach...

Image
During spring break, I was able to complete all filming. It was perfect timing to complete all filming since we all had free time. My cousins who each own the pets in my film (bunny and hamster) had free time to clean up the animal’s cages. Prior to the cleaning, the cages were filled with poop and other substances that would have most likely made watchers uncomfortable or drew away attention from the animal itself. During the time the animals would be shown in the film it would be a POV shot from the perspective of the main male lead, and I don’t want anything to take away from the ferociousness perceived by the main male lead. Filming the animals did not present as much as a struggle as I though it would. I initially imagined that the animals would run away when I approached them with camera, but they unexpectedly moved towards me. However, they weren’t eager enough so at one point I had to bring out treats to coax the animals. I got amazing shots of the bunny and hamster clawing at ...

Final Task: Editing 2

Image
Editing of the footage collected the weekend prior commenced this week. Using my Microsoft Video Editor, I cut and organized the recordings. Before even delving into the editing app, I deleted extra footage that was in my camera and saved a few extra ones. I uploaded and saved the videos I wanted in the film to my laptop then later uploaded them into the editing app. Since I now had the footage to go before the previous footage I edited, I cut the scene to transition nicely into the next. The majority of editing this week was trimming and ordering the scenes. This week was light editing due to the missing first 3 scenes. I put off editing like music and adding effects until I had more footage. Adding in music and special effects would have taken more times as well, and that was time I did not have this week. Spring Break will grant much more time to work on the project, and filming should be completed by the end. I plan to complete the majority of editing of the entire f...

Final Task: Focusing on the Main Male Lead

Image
As per schedule, I filmed a few scenes this past weekend. In the schedule, I planned to film the first 3 scenes as well (beach scene), but my brother was too busy to commute to the beach this past weekend. I was able to film scenes 4-8 and the remainder of scenes 9 and 10. I moved filming the beach scene to spring break since we both will have more free time.   On filming day, we first compromised on a costume for the character. I wanted to portray a heartbroken man whose life was falling apart; I wanted that to be reflected in his clothing. As a costume I chose a sweatshirt, sweatpants, and mismatching socks: I wanted him to look disgruntled and sad. After trying multiple variations of the combination, we finally found one that fit with the mood of the character. We began by filming scene 4, but e had trouble with lighting in that scene. I wanted it to be a dark atmosphere, but the picture did not show up great on the camera. In the end it was lighter than expected, and I d...

Final Task: First Day of Editing

Image
Contrary to the schedule, editing did not take place on March 7, 2021. Editing took place at a later date due to lack of time on March 7, 2021. When planning the schedule, I mainly targeted it towards filming. Since filming involves other people’s time, it was best to provide a schedule, but editing is based solely on me, so I don’t hold the dates to as high a standard. The dates for editing in the schedule are more of a guide but one date, the date where all editing is finalized, is a goal. Editing this week did not consist of much since I did not have much film and scenes to edit. I first went through all the videos I recorded in my camera and choose the ones that were acceptable and deleted the ones with mistakes. I kept some on the camera as a backup just in case I felt like changing it or a peer reviewer felt another take would fit better. Once I selected the ones I plan to have in my film for now, I uploaded them to my computer and then to the editing app. The editing app I...

Final Task: First Day of Filming

Image
As set in the schedule, the first day of filming commenced this past Saturday March 6, 2021. During filming I recorded a part of scene 9 and 10. My brother’s girlfriend joined us this weekend and rather than having her repeatedly come back I took the opportunity to finish all of her parts in the film, which wasn’t that many. My brother’s girlfriend (Jakira Worsley) was able to deliver the emotions and portray the acting I wanted, but not without many trials and errors. While I wanted to portray a character with elegance, sexiness, and maturity, it was hard to do so based on Ms. Worsley’s natural character. She fit more into the tomboy category and had trouble delivering my vision. For costumes I instructed her to bring a piece of her own clothing, like a dress, but all she had were shorts, sweatpants, and plain T shirts.   To get the feeling I wanted, I lent her a piece of my own clothing. I was not completely satisfied, but the sexiness, elegance and maturity were somewhat ...

Final Task: Sticking to the Schedule

Image
Filming and editing this week did not commence for multiple reasons. One being that I wanted to stick to the schedule that I previously planned. In my schedule, the first day of filming begins March 6, 2021, this Saturday coming up. The schedule was planned to accommodate my work from other classes, personal activities during free time, and my work schedule. I plan to stick to my schedule so filming nor editing did not commence this week. If I did have free time, I would have begun filming earlier but, as I expected there were multiple things keeping me busy and I would not have had time to film anything. I plan to start filming this Saturday because it was the most appropriate time. The script and storyboard were just completed this week and the adjust time was the days before the first day of filming. I alerted my actors and prepared props w...

Planning for Final Task: Storyboard

Image
Story boards provide a draft for the filming that will later take place. They allow the opportunity to clearly organize your thoughts with a visual representation. Before I drafted my storyboard, I had a lot of ideas that were all disorganized, but with the storyboard I could weed out the bad ideas and add onto scenes I already planned. It also made it easier to decide which specific times in a scene the titles would appear. I made the decision to move the first title to a later part in scene 1 which made it smoother to introduce other tittles and produced a better flow for the overall film.
